Unzip/untar Mage distribution file to the
directory, in which you want Mage to be installed.
To configure Mage in Netscape:
Choose "Edit >> Preferences >> Applications."
Click on the button "New Type..." (or "New...")
and enter kinemage for the "MIME-type" and "Description", kin
for the "Extention" fields of the window. Choose the installed
Mage executable in the "Application" field and append space and %s
(for Windows %1 instead of %s ; for Mozilla browsers no parameters needed) there.
Close and restart Netscape.
To configure Mage in Internet Explorer:
Find a menu Options>>File Types in your (Windows)
Explorer window (under a menu View for Windows 98,NT)
Click on the button "New Type..." and enter
kinemage for the "Description" and "Content_Type(MIME)", kin
for the "Associated extension" fields of the appearing window Add_New_File_Type.
Click on the button "New..." under "Actions:" field. Enter open
for "Action" field and locate the installed Mage executable for "Application
used to perform action" field using "Browse...". Press "OK" buttons
to exit and save modifications.
The above actions are not possible if you
already have kin_auto_file File_type in your system. This File_type should
be removed using regedit.exe (Start>>Run and type in regedit.exe) and searching
for and deleting the previously defined .kin extension under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.
After this, you should be able to use 'kinemage'
links in the ProSAT visualisation pages to view kinemages.
Untar Rasmol distribution file to the directory,
in which you want Rasmol to be installed.
To configure Rasmol in Netscape:
Choose "Edit >> Preferences >> Applications."
Click on the button "New Type..." (or "New...")
and enter chemical/rasmolscript for the "MIME-type", rasmol-script
for the "Description", ras for the "Extention" fields of the
appearing window. Choose the installed Rasmol executable in the "Application"
field and append space and -script%s (for Windows %1
instead of %s) there.
Close and restart Netscape.
To configure Rasmol in Mozilla:
Create a shell script, for example,
rasmol.sh, with 2 lines:
#!/bin/sh
/path_to_your_rasmol_executable -script $1 change its attributes to
executable and define it as a Helper Application
for File type chemical/rasmolscript.
To configure Rasmol in Internet Explorer:
Find a menu Options>>File Types in your (Windows)
Explorer window (under a menu View for Windows 98,NT)
Click on the button "New Type..." and enter
rasmol-script for the "Description", chemical/rasmolscript
for the "Content_Type(MIME)", ras for the "Associated extension"
fields of the appearing window Add_New_File_Type. Click on the button
"New..." under "Actions:" field. Enter open for "Action" field
and locate the installed Rasmol executable for "Application used to perform
action" field using "Browse...". append a space and -script
in this field after the executable file name. Press "OK" buttons to exit
and save modifications.
After this, you should be able to use 'rasmol'
links in the ProSAT visualisation pages to view rasmol-script based annotations.
Please note that the version 2.7.2 was
found not to work properly on some platforms, therefore use versions 2.6.x
or 2.7.2.1 instead.

to install Chime plugin for your web browser(s).
After this, you should be able to use 'chime'
link in the ProSAT visualisation pages to view structure annotations using
Protein Explorer.
Please note: at this time, only the Netscape
4.7X Web browsers on Windows 95/98/NT and Mac OS 8.6/9.0 fully support structure
annotations using Protein Explorer / Chime.
