- Segregation of duplicated DNA before celldivision
Meiosis:
- Reduction of the diploid chromosome set to the haploid set
- homologue recombination
- only takes place in germ cells of multicell eucaryotes
- production of sperms and eggs
- involves two nuclear divisions rather than one
